Insurance Agency M&As hit second highest level in Canada and US

In 2016, mergers and acquisitions (M&As) of insurance agencies hit record levels, a report has found. The annual study by OPTIS Partners revealed that the number of reported insurance agency M&As last year was the second-highest to date. A total of 449 deals were recorded in both the United States and Canada, slightly lower than 2015’s record of 456.

Archway Insurance, one of Atlantic Canada’s largest insurance brokerages, announced on Tuesday that it will purchase Alliance Assurance effective Dec. 31.
